Bus Expectations
The bus is an extension of the school building. All athletes are expected to stay seated while on buses with a voice level 0-1.
Athletes are also expected to be respectful of all peers and bus drivers.
Without bus drivers, interscholastic sports become very challenging.
If athletes cannot follow bus transportation expectations it may result in them being unable to use athletic transportation.
Parents or guardians are permitted to pick up their athletes from practice or from competitions. However:
Parents must sign child out with coaches from away competitions so we can safely keep track of athletes.
Parents may not bring other athletes home with them from away competitions.
Spectator Expectations
The athletic department strongly encourages you to come out and support our students in their athletic endeavors. The pride of this community is strong, and our athletes feed off of your energy. However, we work very hard to maintain positive, respectful, and safe atmosphere’s for all of our events. While spectating please remember to follow the below expectations;
ALL PEOPLE have the right to be treated with kindness and respect.
Officials: without them we do not get to compete. They are people too and like all of us, are not perfect. If you are asked to leave a competition by an official their decision is final. If you would like to become an official please contact the athletic office for more information
Coaches: our coaches are charged with providing all student athletes with a positive experience. They have been hired to coach our teams, we ask that you let them do their job and refrain from sideline coaching.
Athletes: both South Portland and our visiting teams. Any disrespectful language or remarks directed at individuals and or teams will not be tolerated.
Other Spectators: Whether they are South Portland residents or not, all people who walk into our doors deserve to be treated with respect.
Please spectate from designated areas.
Officials and Athletic Department staff reserve the right to remove fans from contests for violations of Expectations.

Tryouts
The first week of practice leading is considered a tryout period. While the intention of coaches is to be able to keep everyone, unfortunately in some cases cuts may have to be made on our teams to keep numbers in a reasonable range. If your athlete is cut from a team South Portland Rec offers a fantastic Rec league for 7th and 8th graders.
Practice Times & Schedule
A detailed practice schedule can be found here.
*All schedules subject to change based on weather and other factors – The athletic department does our best to make decisions on games and practices by noon each day*
Practices will be held at South Portland everyday after school except for early release days, or days where there is no school for any reason.
Each day the practice slots will be:
Beginning | End |
---|---|
2:20 PM | 3:45 PM |
3:45 PM | 5:00 PM |
5:00 PM | 6:15 PM |
6:15 PM | 7:30 PM |
Transportation
The Athletic Department will be providing a shuttle for athletes who are unable to get transportation home from practice. We have created a shuttle that gets athletes to certain areas of the city from which they can reasonably walk.
For athletes practicing in the 2:20 to 3:45 practice slot, they will be able to access the 3:50 South Portland Middle School late bus.
Below is the bus shuttle schedule. Each location is a drop off location. Our goal was to cover as much of the city as possible given the resources we have.
