During Computer Science Week SPHS teacher Julie York visited the White House to share how South Portland students and teachers use Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) with an equity lens. York met with staff of Senator Angus King and Representative Shellie Pingree to share the incredible work being done in Maine and in South Portland schools.
SPMS band director Jen Fletcher performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Ms. Fletcher told NewsCenter Maine "It's been crazy. It's been a year-and-a-half of preparation, memorizing music, walking the dog around the neighborhood to the parade beats, and finding empty parking lots and practice fields to get some steps in." She was one of just two educators from Maine selected to participate.
South Portland Schools will operate with a one-hour delayed start on Monday, October 30.
Buses will pick up students one hour later than their normal times.

All South Portland Schools will be closed today, Thursday October 26th, due to the ongoing search for the suspect in the shootings in Lewiston last night.
As the tragic shootings in Lewiston is ongoing situation, we encourage all families to follow the advice of law enforcement to stay safe at home until the perpetrator is apprehended.
We will closely monitor developments in the situation and will respond accordingly. We are in touch with the South Portland Police Department and will make a decision about the school day tomorrow, October 26th, in light of those developments.
South Portland High School (and ONLY SPHS) will have an early release today, Wednesday October 25th, because of significant plumbing issues.

South Portland Middle School (SPMS) is hosting a Community Open House and Dedication on Saturday, October 21 from 1:00-4:00pm with the formal dedication program taking place at 2:15pm.
